Countries that receive the most tourists

The World Tourism Ranking is published by the United Nations World Tourism Organization as part of the World Tourism Barometer publication, which is published six times a year. The article ranks UN regions and sub-regions by number of international visitors, inbound tourism receipts, and outbound tourist expenditures.

In 2019, there were 1.458 billion tourists worldwide, an increase of 3.5% compared to 2018. The following countries are included in the top 10 international tourism destinations of 2019.

In 2019:

  • More than 72.4 million tourists arrived in Africa, an increase of 5.4% from 2018.
  • 219.4 million tourists arrived in the Americas, an increase of 1.6%.
  • More than 360.1 million tourists arrived in Asia and the Pacific, an increase of 3.6% from 2018.
  • About 744.3 million tourists arrived in Europe, an increase of 3.9% compared to 2017.
  • 61.4 million tourists arrived in the Middle East (excluding Turkey, Iran and Israel), an increase of 2.1% compared to 2018.

International tourism revenue

It rose to $1.451 billion in 2018, a real increase of 4.4% over 2017. The World Tourism Organization reports the following regions as the top ten countries with the highest revenue from the tourism industry in 2018, with the United States earning the most.
